If one is lucky, there will be a few people in life that friendship comes effortlessly with. Marin is one of those people for me. I started regularly hearing stories about this new hire, Marin, that my other half, Matt, was becoming friends with at work. Eventually, we were introduced, and a beautiful friendship blossomed. Was the first time we met a kayaking trip down the Quinebaug River, a night out for tacos, or a work event Matt brought me to? I don’t know if we’ll ever figure it out, so we’ll pretend it was the kayaking trip. Soooooo Marin shows up with a kayak she borrowed from a friend and admittedly no experience kayaking. This was not a problem since the part of the river we were traversing was not too fast moving, only having a few short areas where paddling was really essential. It was in one of these spots that Marin got turned around and struggled to turn the boat back; however, it’s not the struggle that stood out for me, it was Marin’s demeanor. The whole trip was full of laughter.
She did not get frustrated but kept trying her best and simply enjoyed doing something new. That is exactly what attracted me to Marin: her outlook on life, her fun loving, light-hearted attitude, and her willingness to try new things. Since our first introduction, our common interests of animals, reading, bookstores, murder mysteries, tacos, chimichangas (want a laugh? ask Marin to pronounce chimichangas), and keeping our couches company make conversations endless and engaging. When we discovered Hunt a Killer murder mysteries, Marin and I turned my living room wall into a collage of suspects, maps, crime scene photos, and any bit of evidence that was included in the mystery boxes (friends that solve murders together, stay together). Not everyone has cats and even less people talk about their cats like people. Marin and I definitely do! There are so many reasons why Marin and I are and will be life-long friends and I am honored to be a part of the beginning of the next chapter as she marries the love of her life.
